OUR SUMMER SCHEDULE: Our season begins slowly in April and becomes a full time seasonal exempt position in May through Labor Day, additional dates may be available in the fall.
POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
Under the direction of the Head Camp Cook, the Assistant Camp Cook is responsible for providing food service to resident campers and rental groups at the Lake Wenatchee YMCA Camp facility including menu development and inventory control, food preparation, baking, dishwashing, and kitchen cleanup.
What to Expect At Camp Assistant Cooks may live in cabins and assist Cabin Leaders with 5-8 campers overnight.
Throughout each one-week session, Assistant Cooks act as mentors, teachers, and role models for campers and have unbelievable opportunities to have a positive impact on campers’ lives.
All staff members work six days each week, with a break from Friday evening until Sunday morning.
Each day staff will have scheduled time off and our goal is to give each person 2 hours each day.
Previous commercial or institutional cooking/baking experience preferred.
What We’re Looking For We are looking for mature staff members to role model healthy living and the YMCA’s four character values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
We expect our staff to have a genuine liking for youth and a character that fits our camp values.
Camp is for people who love working with kids and roughing it in the outdoors.
The ideal staff member enjoys hiking, camping, and cooking over a fire.
They don’t mind the insects or rodents and can survive without a shower everyday.
Staff must feel comfortable working as a part of a team, have the desire to pitch in when needed and stay positive throughout these experiences.
The staff must be able to uphold the standards and policies and be willing to live in an alcohol, tobacco and drug-free living environment.
This will be a challenging and rewarding summer job experience!
