CLOSING DATE: August 4, 2023 POSITION: Paschal Sherman Indian School Principal SALARY: DOE REPORTS TO: PSIS Superintendent LOCATION: Paschal Sherman Indian School, Omak, WA Basic Functions: Incumbent implements the school board’s vision by making day-to-day decisions about educational programs, spending, staff, and facilities.
Recommends for hire, supervises, and manages all instructional staff.
Works with school building leaders to serve the needs of students and meet the school’s goals.
Responds to the demands of all the other constituencies and interest groups in the school community: teachers, students, parents, staff, advocates, Colville Confederated Tribes Council and Education Director, and the community at large.
Understands and keeps informed regarding all aspects of the instructional program.
Serves as the educational leader involved in improvement of instruction and the improvement of curriculum.
Maintains a sound philosophy of educational needs of the students at their level of assignment or program.
Participates with staff, board and community in studying and developing educational program improvement.
Provides democratic procedures in curriculum work, utilizing the abilities and talents of teachers, specialists, staff and community specialists.
Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Training: Requires a Master's degree with a major in educational administration and a Valid Washington State principal credentials.
Requires a valid Washington State Drivers' License and must be eligible for the Tribes' vehicle insurance and maintain throughout employment.
Requires possessing or obtaining a First Aid/CPR certification within 30 days of employment and must maintain throughout the duration of employment.
Must submit proof of degree, transcripts, certifications, and three written letters of recommendation with application.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Requires demonstrated knowledge and skills in Data Analysis, BIE Native Star, BIE NASIS, WA Skyward, Washington State Learning Standards, Student Assessment Systems, Dual Language instruction and Tribal Language Revitalization, Positive Behavior Intervention Support PBIS, Marzano Instructional Framework, AdvancED- Accreditation, and Washington State Student Discipline Laws https://www.

aspx Requires knowledge of effective instruction, student engagement, and curriculum and lesson development Requires demonstrated knowledge of Native American history and history of Indian Education Requires knowledge of Tribal Historical Trauma and how it affects communities today Requires knowledge of language and culture immersion and dual language instruction Requires an open and collaborative leadership style that fosters a sense of teamwork, common purpose, and shared commitment to the goals of the school.
Requires strong interpersonal skills, and an effective communicator who is positive, approachable, and respectful of others.
Requires ability to make hard and/or complex decisions Requires knowledge and understanding of School Improvement Strategic Planning Requires knowledge and understanding of current preK-12 issues and best practices, including knowledge of education reform in Washington state and the nation, and of accountability requirements at both the state and federal levels.
Requires knowledge and understanding of reporting and management of Bureau of Indian Education Schools and Tribally Controlled Schools Requires knowledge, understanding and support of innovative educational practices and programs, culturally responsive practices, trauma informed practices, and Social/Emotional Learning, that meet the needs of diverse learners and the choices families wish for their children’s education.
Requires ability to actively engage and help lead a complex, goal-focused organization, delegating tasks and responsibilities as appropriate, and holding him/herself and others accountable for quality results.
Requires experience with collaborative, respectful and effective employee relations practices and relationships.
Requires demonstrated work ethic and unquestioned integrity honesty and diplomacy.
Requires demonstrated ability to work with people in a leadership capacity.
Requires ability to maintain strict confidentiality and must sign PSIS oath of Confidentiality.
Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing.
In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.
TRIBAL MEMBER AND INDIAN PREFERENCE WILL APPLY; PREFERENCE WILL ALSO BE GIVEN TO HONORABLY DISCHARGED VETERANS WHO ARE MINIMALLY QUALIFIED.
If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance.
In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances.
If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
