CLOSING DATE: Open until filled, with bi-weekly reviews POSITION: Life Skills Paraprofessional SALARY: 16.

00 DOE REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education LOCATION: Paschal Sherman Indian School, Omak, WA Basic Functions: Incumbent is responsible for providing supervision in a classroom, physical education, lunchroom, playground and to and from buses.
Incumbent assists in preparation and reinforcement of instructional materials as well as assisting children in learning chose curriculum based upon individual needs.
Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Training: Requires an AA Degree OR 72 quarter credits OR 48 semester credits from an institution of Higher Education OR completed a registered apprenticeship program OR successfully passed the Education Testing Services Para Educator Assessment Test.
Requires a valid Washington State Drivers' License and must be eligible for the Tribes' vehicle insurance and maintain throughout employment.
Requires possessing or obtaining a CPR/First Aid certification within 30 working days of hire.
Proof of degree, transcripts, certificates, and three written letters of recommendation must be submitted with application.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Requires ability to understand and apply rules, procedures, and policies.
Requires ability to work constructively and cooperatively with others, establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and suboordinates.
Requires ability to assist with activities proscribed by personnel such as Physical therapist, Occuptational therapist, and Speech therapist.
Requires ability to escort student to each class throughout the day.
Requires ability to lift student in and out of walker/wheelchair for positioning, diaper changing, and help with toileting.
Reqiures abilty to hear requests for help, observe learning difficulties from pupils, and report such matters to teacher.
Requires ability to work with individual students or small groups on instruction as planned by the classroom.
Requires ability to monitor student and assist in instructing self care skills including feeding, dressing, brushing teeth, combing hair, toileting, diapering, etc.
Requires ability to chart individual progress of students under direction and supervision of the teacher.
Requires ability to meet with teacher and other para-educators for building and room staff meetings.
Requires extended periods of walking, standing, bending, twisting, and ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Requires ability to maintain good work attendance and be on time.
Requires adherence to strict confidentiality.
Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing.
In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.
TRIBAL MEMBER AND INDIAN PREFERENCE WILL APPLY; PREFERENCE WILL ALSO BE GIVEN TO HONORABLY DISCHARGED VETERANS WHO ARE MINIMALLY QUALIFIED.
If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance.
In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances.
If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
