CLOSING DATE: Open until filled with bi-weekly reviews POSITION: Special Education Teacher (for the 2024-2025 academic school year) SALARY: DOE REPORTS TO: PSIS Special Education Coordinator LOCATION: Paschal Sherman Indian School ; Omak, Washington Basic Functions: Incumbent is responsible for maintaining the learning environment in the Resource Room on a daily basis with careful planning and in coordination with different school functions as well as State and Tribal agencies.
The selected applicant for this position will provide valuable insight and input based upon their specific training and shall possess the knowledge, skills, and compassion necessary to work with students who are academically, socially, or emotionally disabled.
Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Training: Requires a current Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with a Special Education endorsement.
Requires a First Aid/CPR certification within 30 days of hire and maintain throughout employment.
Requires proof of degree, certifications, and three written letters of recommendation upon submission of application.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Requires knowledge in the instruction of the State Common Core Standards that is relevant to the areas taught.
Requires knowledge in standard based instruction and grading.
Requires ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and subordinates.
Requires the ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
(Incumbent must sign the Colville Tribes' confidentiality agreement as well as PSIS Program Confidentiality Oath Form) Requires knowledge of and ability to participate in the development of IEP's for each child placed in the program.
Requires ability to participate in Special Education meetings.
Requires ability to keep accurate records on students progress towards their objectives and goals.
Requires communication skills necessary to maintain effective communication between staff, administration, students, and parents.
Requires ability to plan and supervise the activities of an instructional Teacher's Aid.
Requires the ability to plan, direct, and teach individualized instruction programs.
Requires the ability to attend all prescribed training and workshops that may involve travel.
Requires ability to maintain a good learning environment in the Resource Room.
Requires ability to maintain a comprehensive in-class discipline program and must be able to deal with a wider range of unacceptable behaviors within the confines of your program.
Requires ability to willingly accept additional school duties and responsibilities, as assigned by an Administrator/Coordinator.
Requires ability to demonstrate sound mental and physical health and good moral character.
Requires ability and the desire to work with Native American children, specifically those with special needs.
Must be able to pass a Tribal, State, and Federal background check and maintain throughout employment.
Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing.
In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.
TRIBAL MEMBER AND INDIAN PREFERENCE WILL APPLY; PREFERENCE WILL ALSO BE GIVEN TO HONORABLY DISCHARGED VETERANS WHO ARE MINIMALLY QUALIFIED.
If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance.
In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances.
If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
