Description About WSDOT Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is the steward of an integrated, multimodal transportation system that helps to ensure people and goods move safely and efficiently throughout the state.
In addition to building, maintaining, and operating the state highway system, WSDOT operates the largest ferry system in the nation, manages the world's longest floating bridge, and recently completed the world's widest tunneling project.
The Opportunity WSDOT is currently seeking a Highway Maintenance Worker 3 at Berne Camp located on Stevens Pass, approximately 30 miles west of Leavenworth, WA.
This working crew lead is a member of the regional maintenance organization.
Operating a wide variety of highway equipment and tools, this position is responsible for leading lower-level Highway Maintenance Workers performing maintenance activities on a specific sub-section of highway and regularly performs maintenance or incident response tasks with the assigned crew.
The maintenance and repair of highways and highway structures is critical to ensure the safe and efficient movement of people and commerce.
What to Expect Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, you will: Lead Highway Maintenance Crews.
Plan, train, work and give direction to crews.
Maintenance and repair of guardrail and cable barriers.
Pavement maintenance and repair; apply concrete, asphalt, synthetic materials.
Drainage maintenance.
Erosion and slide repair.
Sign maintenance and repair.
Remove litter, animal remains, and debris on state right-of-way.
Maintain roadways to include snow and ice control.
Report daily work activities.
Account for inventory and inventories highway section.
Snow and ice control and maintain stockpile sites.
Qualifications To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required: Three (3) years of experience performing roadway maintenance, or heavy equipment operation.
Experience performing traffic control per MUTCD including planning, setting signs and cones or barrels, and flagging.
A Washington State Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class B without airbrake restrictions.
Must have N (tanker) endorsement and current medical card obtained prior to employment.
Must obtain Class A CDL (without restrictions) with endorsement N and without air brakes restriction within 12 months of hiring, WSDOT will assist in training for this licensing requirement.
Preferred/Desired Qualifications: Washington Class A CDL (without restrictions) with endorsement N and without air brakes restriction.
High school graduation, or possession of a GED certificate, or equivalent Experience adhering to safety policies and diligence in performing work in a safe manner.
Experience leading and/or supervising crews, providing clear direction, and making good decisions in stressful conditions.
Experience in working independently and prioritizing workload, with the ability to handle multiple assignments.
Important Notes Must be able to report in service to assigned duty station within 60 minutes of an after-hours call.
This position is upgraded to a supervisor during the winter months roughly, December 1st to May 1st each year.
State vehicle could possibly be provided to the selected candidate from the Leavenworth Shed to Stevens Pass Shed depending on candidates’ location.
Typical schedule is Monday-Thursday, 40-hours per week, for 4, 10-hour days.
Weekends and holidays may be required to respond to non-scheduled call-out emergencies.
In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position.
